Osun Council Chairmen Begin 1,050km Road Grading Across LGAs

The Forum of Council Chairmen in Osun State, under the aegis of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has commenced a large-scale road grading and rehabilitation project spanning all 30 Local Government Areas, including Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), Area Councils, and Administrative Offices.

The initiative, which covers a total of 1,050 kilometres of roads, is designed to improve grassroots transportation, enhance mobility within communities, and strengthen social and economic connectivity across the state.

According to the plan, each local government is expected to grade 35 kilometres of roads, with work already at an advanced stage in several councils.

In a statement issued by the ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government, Hon. Idowu Samuel Abiodun, the project was described as a strategic intervention aimed at boosting rural-urban linkages and accelerating socio-economic development at the grassroots.

He noted that the exercise would significantly improve access to communities, promote safety, and create opportunities for commercial and industrial activities, particularly in rural areas.

The statement further highlighted that the road grading initiative would support farmers by easing the transportation of agricultural produce to markets, thereby enhancing productivity and strengthening the local economy.

ALGON emphasized that the project forms part of broader efforts by council administrations in the state to deliver people-oriented and impactful development projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents across Osun.
