A woman identified as Hafsatu Yusuf has died days after giving birth to quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano State.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, who disclosed that the woman passed away around 2 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, at the hospital.
According to him, the deceased developed complications following the delivery, particularly persistent bleeding, which medical personnel were unable to control despite efforts to stabilise her condition.
He explained that the woman had been experiencing continuous bleeding after delivering the five babies—three boys and two girls—and did not recover.
K/Na’isa further revealed that the deceased has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro.
He appealed to members of the public to support the newborns with essential items, including milk, as they continue to receive care.
The ministry also confirmed that the quintuplets are in stable condition and are currently under medical supervision at the hospital.
It would be recalled that the Kano State Ministry of Health had earlier announced the successful delivery of the quintuplets, noting that both the mother and her babies were placed under special medical care before her condition deteriorated.
