Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, a governorship aspirant in Ogun State and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has expressed optimism that a consensus arrangement would favour her in securing the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television on Thursday, Obasanjo endorsed the use of consensus in selecting party candidates, describing it as a strategic approach to identifying the most viable contenders.
She dismissed concerns that the consensus method could sideline popular candidates, noting that political parties are driven by the need to win elections and would not deliberately choose unpopular aspirants.
According to her, consensus reflects the will of the people rather than undermining it, as party leaders are guided by grassroots sentiments when making decisions.
Obasanjo further argued that the process would naturally favour candidates with strong public support, adding that no party would risk alienating voters by imposing weak candidates.
The governorship hopeful also highlighted her track record in public service, stating that resources earned during her tenure in the Senate were invested in projects that directly benefited her constituents, which she believes strengthens her chances in the race.
