Osun United, Osun Babes on the Brink — FA Urges Immediate Government Intervention.... Warns of Imminent Collapse of State Football Clubs

The Osun State Football Association has called for urgent intervention to address the deteriorating conditions affecting state-owned football clubs, Osun United and Osun Babes.

In a press statement released by the association, concerns were raised over the declining performance of both teams, which are currently battling relegation in their respective leagues. The FA attributed the situation to poor player welfare, inadequate support, and weakening operational standards.

Chairman of the association, Sola Fanawopo, urged the state government—particularly the Deputy Governor, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports—to take immediate and practical steps to reverse the trend.

He emphasized the need for direct engagement, including visits to players’ hostels, inspection of team transportation facilities, and attendance at matches to gain firsthand insight into the challenges facing the teams.

According to Fanawopo, the current welfare conditions have significantly impacted players’ morale and overall performance, placing both clubs in a precarious position.

The association therefore called for swift and decisive action to stabilize the teams, improve welfare conditions, and safeguard Osun State’s standing in Nigerian football.

The statement was signed by the association’s media contact, Seyi Akaani.
