Police Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Stolen Toyota Camry in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry in Akure, the state capital.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, who said the breakthrough followed a detailed investigation into a case involving conspiracy, stealing, and receiving stolen property.

According to the statement, the case was reported on February 27, 2026, by one Adeyemi Robert. He informed police authorities that on February 14, 2026, he attended a social event at Sijuade Street in Akure, where he parked his Toyota Camry saloon car, bearing registration number AH173WWD, in front of the venue.

He explained that upon returning after the event, he discovered that the vehicle had been stolen by unknown persons.

Following the report, detectives launched an investigation, deploying intelligence gathering and other strategies aimed at recovering the vehicle and apprehending those responsible.

The police revealed that their efforts led to the recovery of the vehicle from one Awolo Akingbade, 40, who was found in possession of the car and subsequently invited for questioning.

Further investigation, according to the Command, uncovered that the vehicle had been sold to him by the principal suspect, Adeyemi David, who was later arrested.

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly stole the vehicle before selling it to the buyer.

The police confirmed that the recovered Toyota Camry has been secured as an exhibit, while both suspects have provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations. The suspects have since been charged to court.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He also warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to support crime prevention efforts across the state.
