The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has stepped up political consultations ahead of the state’s 2026 governorship election.
According to a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, the meetings were held over the weekend at the minister’s country home in Iragbiji. The consultations brought together elders of the party, serving and former members of the National Assembly, former members of the Osun State House of Assembly, support groups, and other key stakeholders from across the state.
The engagements were part of efforts by Oyetola to strengthen party unity and mobilize grassroots support in preparation for the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Participants at the meetings reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to the party and pledged to work collectively toward returning the APC to power in Osun State.
Addressing the gathering, the former governor urged party leaders and elders to close ranks and intensify political mobilization across the state.
“The forthcoming election will be decisive and critical for the future of our party and the state,” Oyetola said. “This is the time for unity, loyalty, and sustained engagement with the people at the grassroots.”
He also expressed strong confidence in the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, describing him as a candidate with broad support across the state and the leadership capacity to deliver purposeful governance.
Oyetola added that preparations for the 2026 governorship poll should align with the party’s broader strategy for the 2027 general elections, stressing that unity among stakeholders remains the APC’s greatest strength.
He commended party elders and loyal members for their dedication, urging them to continue promoting peace, cooperation, and political stability within their communities and local government areas.
Beyond the political consultations, the weekend also featured two major gatherings that drew large crowds to Iragbiji. On Friday, Oyetola hosted family members, associates, and supporters at special prayers marking the 15th anniversary of the passing of his mother, Alhaja Wulemot Arike Oyetola.
The engagements continued on Sunday with the annual Ileri Oluwa Ramadan Lecture, hosted by the minister, which brought together religious leaders, community figures, political associates, and residents from different parts of Osun State and beyond.
