‎Residents of Orosunmbare community in Irojo, Ilesa East Local Government Area, have been thrown into distress following a severe erosion incident triggered by upland flooding.

‎The floodwaters, which forced their way toward the Osun Ankara River, caused significant destruction within the community. Several perimeter fences were swept away, motorcycles were displaced, and floodwaters invaded homes, carrying personal belongings into the river.

‎Speaking with our correspondent, the Olorisunmbare of Orisunmbare-elect, Chief Bayo Fagbulu, outlined some of the proactive steps taken by residents to mitigate the situation. According to him, the community had embarked on self-help measures such as digging drainage channels and gutters to redirect water flow. However, he stressed that the magnitude of the disaster has exceeded the community’s capacity to manage.

‎Chief Fagbulu therefore called for urgent government intervention to prevent further damage and safeguard lives and property.

‎Preliminary assessments suggest that the disaster may have been caused by a combination of human negligence—particularly poor drainage management—and natural environmental factors.
