Kidnappers Abduct Woman in Lagos, Demand $60,000 Equivalent Ransom ‎

‎A woman identified as Olanike Ogundare has been abducted by armed kidnappers from her residence in the Oke Agaye area of Ijedodo in Lagos State, in a late-night operation that has heightened security concerns in the community.

‎The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at No. 1 Olufemi Ogundare Street. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants carried out a coordinated attack, overpowering the security guard on duty at gunpoint before whisking the victim away to an unknown destination.

‎Local sources say the kidnappers have since established contact with the victim’s family on two occasions, initially demanding a ransom of ₦60 million for her release. However, in a move believed to be aimed at evading financial tracking, the abductors have now converted the demand to its equivalent in United States dollars.

‎The kidnappers are reportedly using the victim’s mobile phone to communicate, with a man identified as Dapo Adeola acting as an intermediary between both parties. It was gathered that the victim’s husband has already transferred ₦5 million to the intermediary, although it remains unclear whether the funds have been converted or delivered to the abductors.

‎Security sources familiar with the development suggest that the victim is still in captivity, while efforts are ongoing to track communications and financial transactions linked to the case. The shift to a dollar-denominated ransom, according to investigators, points to a more organized and sophisticated criminal network seeking to avoid detection.

‎“The ransom demand remains ₦60 million, now required in U.S. dollars. ₦5 million has already been transferred by the husband to the intermediary. The status of conversion and delivery is yet to be confirmed,” a source disclosed.

‎The source further noted that the use of an intermediary presents both risks and strategic opportunities for law enforcement agencies, particularly in monitoring and potentially intercepting communications.

‎Meanwhile, the victim’s family has engaged security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, to facilitate her safe rescue.

‎Community leaders and local security stakeholders have also been mobilised, with Gani Adams reportedly involved in efforts to support the ongoing response.

‎As of the time of filing this report, authorities are intensifying efforts to secure the victim’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
