The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State has announced plans to distribute 300 motorcycles to security agencies across the state’s 30 local government areas as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Forum of Council Chairmen, will see each local government receive 10 motorcycles for onward distribution to security formations, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups.
In a statement issued by the Osun ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, the motorcycles—popularly known as Okada—are expected to be delivered in the coming days. The distribution will also cover the Ife-East Area Office, Modakeke.
According to the statement, the move is aimed at enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies and ensuring improved protection of lives and property at the grassroots level.
ALGON noted that the directive has been issued to all 30 local government areas and the Ife-East Area Office to commence implementation immediately, describing the intervention as a complementary effort to ongoing security operations within the state.
“This is to complement the efforts of security agents across the local governments. We remain resolute and irrevocably committed to the safety of our people across the nooks and crannies of the state,” the statement read.
The council chairmen also reaffirmed their commitment to improving governance and welfare at the grassroots, emphasizing that security remains a top priority despite political distractions.
ALGON further commended security operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and patriotism, while assuring residents of continued efforts to safeguard their well-being and maintain peace across communities.
