Tragedy in Ondo: Three Children K!lled in Suspected Domestic Attack in Okitipupa

Residents of Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been thrown into mourning following the gruesome killing of three children in a suspected domestic attack on Tuesday.

The victims, who were members of the same extended family, included a female student enrolled in the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme, her cousin, and a young boy identified as the biological son of the alleged attacker.

Sources revealed that the suspect, said to be a male relative of the victims and reportedly mentally unstable, attacked the children with a machete before fleeing the scene.

An eyewitness disclosed that the assailant carried out the attack simultaneously on the victims, including his own son, before taking to his heels.

“The victims include a JUPEB student and two young boys. One of them is the attacker’s son, while the others are members of the extended family. It is a devastating loss,” the source said.

Further findings indicated that the head of the family, identified as Baba Agbaye, and his wife had earlier left for their oil palm farm when the incident occurred. Upon their return, they reportedly encountered the suspect, who claimed he was coming from the family house—unaware that he had allegedly carried out the fatal attack.

The remains of the victims have since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect has been arrested and that a full investigation is ongoing.

“The suspect has been arrested, and a thorough investigation is underway. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” the police spokesperson stated.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with residents calling for increased attention to mental health and domestic safety.
