A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Olufemi Balogun, has called on party leaders and stakeholders to consider Dr. Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe for the senatorial ticket of the Ife/Ijesa (Osun East) Senatorial District, citing his longstanding loyalty and contributions to the progressive movement.
In a statement made available on Sunday, Balogun described Ogungbangbe as a committed party stalwart whose political journey dates back to the days of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), through the Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), to the present APC.
He noted that Ogungbangbe has remained consistent and dedicated to the ideals of progressive politics, even as others changed political affiliations over time.
According to Balogun, the senatorial aspirant has played a significant role in supporting the party, both financially and structurally, across Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency and the wider Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District, without receiving political appointments or elective positions in return.
He argued that rewarding such loyalty would strengthen the party and reinforce the principle of recognising dedication and sacrifice within its ranks.
Balogun further pointed to examples in other states, where strategic leadership choices have enhanced political representation and grassroots development, expressing confidence that Ogungbangbe possesses the capacity to replicate similar outcomes in Ife/Ijesa.
The APC chieftain also stressed the need for improved representation in the district, noting that effective leadership at the senatorial level is critical to attracting development projects and addressing the needs of constituents.
He urged party stakeholders to consider what he described as a “deserving and strategic choice,” adding that conceding the ticket to Ogungbangbe would not only reward loyalty but also position the district for growth and stronger political relevance.
Ogungbangbe is among those positioning for the Osun East Senatorial contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
