Osun APC Faults Accord Party Over Ikire Killing, Urges Police to Probe Incident

The Governorship Election Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has accused the Accord Party of politicising the recent killing in Ikire, urging security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Co-Chairman (Print), Media and Publicity Committee of the AMBO Campaign Council, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC described allegations linking its members to the death of one Kolade Eluyera in Irewole Local Government Area as “false, fabricated and frivolous.”

The opposition party accused the Accord Party and supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke of attempting to gain political advantage through what it termed “deliberate misinformation” capable of destabilising the peace of the state.

According to the statement, the APC maintained that violence and political brigandage had never been part of the party’s culture, insisting that its governorship candidate, Oyebamiji, is “a perfect gentleman who cannot hurt a fly.”

While sympathising with the family of the deceased, the campaign council called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the killing and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.

“The political ambition of our governorship candidate is not worth the blood of any person in society,” the statement read.

The APC further alleged that the Accord Party was seeking issues to exploit politically ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, claiming that previous accusations against its members had also been disproved by police investigations.

The party referenced an earlier allegation involving Governor Adeleke’s son, Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, which it claimed security agencies found to be unsubstantiated.

The statement also recalled the killing of Hon. Remi Abass, the reinstated APC chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, alleging that political hoodlums linked to the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), now aligned with the Accord Party, were responsible for the incident.

The APC, however, reiterated its confidence ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, expressing optimism that its candidate would emerge victorious through what it described as the “legitimate votes of the good people of Osun State.”
