The ancient town of Erinmo-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State is preparing for a grand display of royalty, culture and tradition as the 2026 Agidanyin Founder’s Day Festival holds on Saturday, November 7, at the Elerinmo’s Palace.
An important highlight of this year's celebration will be the expected arrival of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, who will lead other traditional rulers to the festival alongside the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The joint royal appearance of the two prominent traditional rulers is expected to add great prestige and colour to the historic celebration, further strengthening the cultural ties between Ijesaland and Ibadanland.
Other royal fathers expected at the festival include the Olufon of Ifon, the Elerin of Erin-Ile, the Elerin of Erin-Osun, the Olojudo of Ido-Osun, the Alawo of Awo, the Alademure of Ibokun and the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, alongside other distinguished traditional rulers.
Another major attraction of the 2026 edition will be the appearance of renowned Yoruba scholar, writer, poet, author, linguist and world-famous Ifá priest, Chief Ifáyẹmi Elebuibon.
Elebuibon is expected to lead the rendition of the Annual Iwure, an important part of the festival's traditional programme. The spiritual and cultural session will feature prayers and royal blessings for peace, unity, progress and prosperity in Erinmo-Ijesa Kingdom.
The event, scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., will also feature a rich programme of activities, including the Agidanyin Meat Feast, Miss Erinmo Beauty Pageant, Arowotawaya Recognition Awards, Annual Iwure and Royal Blessings, as well as other traditional and cultural displays.
The Agidanyin Founder’s Day Festival is an important cultural event dedicated to celebrating the history, ancestry and founding of Erinmo-Ijesa Kingdom.
The festival honours Agidanyinmosa, the warrior son of Obalufon Alayemore, who is recognised in the kingdom's history as the first king of Erinmo.
Beyond the celebration, the festival provides an opportunity for the people to remember their ancestors, preserve their customs and pass their history and cultural values on to younger generations.
This year's programme has been designed to combine culture, entertainment, recognition of outstanding contributions and prayers for the kingdom.
The Agidanyin Meat Feast will promote hospitality, traditional food and togetherness among residents and visitors.
The Miss Erinmo Beauty Pageant will provide a platform to celebrate the beauty, intelligence, confidence and cultural knowledge of young women from the community.
The Arowotawaya Recognition Awards will honour individuals who have made important contributions to Erinmo-Ijesa and society through their achievements and service.
Other cultural activities will also showcase the rich traditions and customs that make the kingdom unique.
The 2026 celebration is expected to bring together indigenes of Erinmo-Ijesa, especially those living outside the town, to reconnect with their roots and renew their support for community development.
It will also provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships among traditional institutions and neighbouring communities while promoting cultural preservation, youth development, community empowerment and the future growth of the kingdom.
As Erinmo-Ijesa prepares to welcome the Owa of Ijesaland, the Olubadan of Ibadanland and other distinguished royal guests, the festival promises to be a memorable gathering of royal heritage, ancestral pride, cultural identity and community unity.
The 2026 Agidanyin Founder’s Day Festival is therefore more than an annual cultural event. It is a celebration of the history and identity of Erinmo-Ijesa and a reminder of the responsibility of present generations to preserve their heritage for those yet unborn.
