EXCLUSIVE INVESTIGATION: Six Reasons Why Rauf is Distributing Palliatives in Osun Using his Existing Structure

It is not an overstatement to say that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was controversial throughout his 8-year at the helms of affairs as Osun governor from 2011 to 2018.

Recently, as he commenced the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home directive of the state government to curtail the spread of the dreaded coronavirus, another controversy that seems to create a divide on the social media raised it's head.

Recall that the State of Osun governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola had constituted the committee whose members are Asiwaju Tunde Badmus, Chief Adebayo Jimoh, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor Mathew Asomolowo, Ooni of Ife Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, General Alani Akinriade (RTD), Chief Tunde Ponle, Hon. Patricia Etteh, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Sir Ademola Aladekomo, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuff, Dr. Wale Babalakin, and Dr. Segun Aina.

Other members are, Mallam Yussuf Alli (SAN), Mrs. Folorunso Alakija, Mr. AbdulKabir Aliyu, Dr. Deji Adeleke, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, and three former governors of the state, Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The former governor as a member of the State of Osun 21-man Food and Relief Committee, some therefore opined that whatever he was donating should come as donation to the government through the committee as donors and all former governors, who were members of the Committee, sent their donations to the Committee.Dr. Deji Adeleke, Akin Ogunbiyi, who was a runner up in the PDP Governorship primary in 2018, who is also a member of the Committee, donated to the government through the Committee. Ditto Hon. Wole Oke, another PDP member, just to mention a few.

What then will be Aregbesola's justification for his action?

As we at Kakaki Oodua Media Services set to answer this question, our correspondent involved some close associates of the ex-Osun governor who are directly involved in the distribution in discussions that yielded the following results.

1. That Ogbeni Aregbesola has the right to take his preferred approach to the distribution of a largesse that is originating from him.

2. That Ogbeni has an active political structure on the ground i.e. the Oranmiyan group that he can always fall back on.

3. That the earlier distributed palliatives were not targeted at specific members or groups of Osun APC supporters. That Ogbeni was therefore advised to take a different dimension while distributing his own palliatives.

4. That others also distributed palliatives directly to the public without referring to the 21-man committee.

5. That Ogbeni might have been slighted as his name appeared as the last person on the 21-man members committee list.

6. That Ogbeni only read of his membership of the committee on the pages of newspapers and/or online on the social media.
