The Ijesa North Council of Obas has installed a new president to lead the body of traditional rulers for another two-year tenure. His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye, Abikehin-Ekun II, the Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, was formally inaugurated as the new President of the council during a well-attended ceremony.
Oba Agunsoye takes over from the Owamiran of Esa-Oke, Oba Adediran Adeyemi, who has successfully completed his two-year term. The transition of leadership marked a smooth handover, reflecting unity and cooperation among the monarchs of Ijesa North.
In his acceptance speech, the new President, Oba Moses Oluwafemi Agunsoye, expressed deep appreciation to his predecessor for his committed leadership and successful stewardship. He commended the outgoing President for promoting peace and unity among the traditional rulers and ensuring a seamless transition.
The Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, known for his progressive vision and leadership acumen, called for renewed collective effort from all royal fathers in the council towards the development of the Ijesa North region. He emphasized the importance of unity, cooperation, and shared purpose among traditional rulers in driving grassroots progress.
During his remarks, Oba Agunsoye made a passionate appeal to the Osun State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, to urgently intervene in the case of the collapsed bridge linking Eree-Ijesa and Ilahun-Ijesa. He noted that residents of the affected communities have endured hardship for over nine months due to the damaged infrastructure.
The monarch also used the opportunity to thank the state government for its ongoing efforts in restoring peace to Esa-Oke following a recent communal crisis. He lauded the swift response of relevant authorities in resolving the issue and maintaining order in the region.
In closing, Oba Agunsoye urged fellow monarchs to continue promoting love, unity, and peaceful coexistence across communities. He warned against activities that could lead to boundary disputes and illegal gold mining, stressing that traditional rulers hold sacred responsibilities and must preserve integrity for future generations. “Our actions today will define the legacy we leave behind for our children and those yet unborn,” he said.
