Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi is a truly rare individual with remarkable, commendable, unique leadership skills and qualities. He is a leader that is worthy of emulation. I am not saying this lightly but in the light of the navigation and piloting skills he has shown as the First Asiwaju of ljesaland, a land not known for tolerating or accepting fools gladly, he has shown that he truly mastered leadership skills.
We met professionally through some mutual friends at the World Bank office in Abuja and since then, I have found him to be a thorough and decent professional.
On a personal note as an Ijesa, I regard his appointment as the Asiwaju to be one of the most positively significant acts of the late Owa Aromolaran throughout his reign because of the continuing impact of this Asiwaju on our land's socio-economic development.
He became a rallying point for Ijesa as a result of his demonstrated probity, humility, integrity, fairness and inclusiveness rather than because of his age or wealth.
For the first time in my living memory, the traditional, religious, social, political and economic leaders of ljesaland accepted and rallied round a leader for the joint development of our land. This could never have happened without the leadership skills of Asiwaju Fasuyi.
His conduct in office epitomises the characters associated with and by which our ancestors were known in the past.
The successful projects initiated and executed in ljesaland under his leadership is a testament to his dedication and unalloyed loyalty to ljesaland. From the successful building of the Owa Palace, the Geriatric Centre, the Youths Training, Community Health Insurance, Scholarships and other socio-economic initiatives under his leadership, he has shown what a true leader is and set a standard for leaders in other communities.
The way he is regarded by the old and young shows that ljesas still value those increasingly and rapidly vanishing qualities of leadership by their readiness and willingness to support people of integrity like him.
At a meeting some time ago, the topic turned to community leadership and one Oba pointedly asked me how Asiwaju Fasuyi became the Asiwaju. Before I could respond that I don't know, more than 5 other Obas from different South West states commented and lamented on how their communities lacked people like him. They were unanimous about him, his credibility, sincerity and devotion to ljesaland. They concluded that ljesaland is lucky and blessed to have such an individual. I share their conclusions and hope that my compatriots share them too.
I sincerely congratulate Asiwaju Yinka Fasuyi on this occasion of his birthday, congratulate his family for giving us a great ljesa man and congratulate ljesaland for the good luck of having such a man at this period of our lives.
As I welcome him to the septuagenarian club, I pray for his long life, great health and continued success in his endeavours.
