“Everyone has a purpose in life and a unique talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.”
•Kallam Anji Reddy (1939 -2013)
“The highest distinction is service to others.” •King George VI (1895-1952)
From all the corners in Ìjèsà land
To all the crannies of Obòkun land
The gong is yelling itself hoarse
Making a clarion call to all patriots
To join in this celebration of a new day
The celebration of a phenomenon
Of the first AsÃwájú of ÃŒjèsà land
The celebration of Olayinka omo Fasuyi
The anchor of this new day we are all witnessing
This new day that has come in Ìjèsà land.
Emerging into the new world, this new day
Shedding off the shackles of broken shells
Taking in a new breath of life
Seeing the light of this new day
This beautiful new day in Ijesa land
This new day that has come
For a rebirth; a rejuvenation of patriotism
Anchored by AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi
Like the early morning Sun
Enthusiastic in its calmness
Overtly excited, yet controlled
Its determination, so evident in its march
Utterly unbridled in its capering of the hurdles
We are witnessing this new day
This new day that has come in Ìjèsà land
Anchored by AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi
In the annals of Ìjèsà History, there has been nothing of the sort. There has never been anything like it. It is unprecedented. It is a first. The office is a product of fertile and creative imagination. An imagination pulled from the depth of the desire to deliver to the polity. A creativity that comes from the chipper of love for his people. A perceptibility that pullulates from the profound puddle of pure patriotism.
It is an actualisation of a dream. A dream to drive dreams to deeds. A dream to give to his people. A dream to serve. A dream to dignify the disadvantaged. A dream to give hope to the hopeless. A dream to wake up the latent talent of his people. A dream to give refined and purposeful leadership. A dream to advance the peace, progress and prosperity of the polity. A dream to be happy by fostering the happiness of his own people in as many ramifications as possible.
That is the provenance of the title of AsÃwájú of ÃŒjèsà land. It is from whence it came. It is inspired from thence. It is the compost that created it. It is the humus that hatched it. To produce for ÃŒjèsà land, the first of its kind. To pave a new path for peace and progress. To act as pathfinder for the convoluted social and economic milieu. A milieu that is unwittingly milling in the stagnated plethora of talents, resources and goodwill.
With a pedigree that is reputable in Ilésà , a name that is more valuable than wúrà ati fà dákà , he has built himself from the scratch to what he has become today to and for ÃŒjèsà land. From his then modest office, at the foot of Mokola hills in Ibadan, he worked hard to levitate and position himself for the roles that History has prepared for him as AsÃwájú of ÃŒjèsà land.
Since it has pleased the KábÃyèsÃ, His Imperial Majesty, Owá Obòkun Àdìmúlà of ÃŒjèsà land, Oba Adékúnlé Arómolárân to honour our very own dear brother, Olayinka Fasuyi, with the title of AsÃwájú of ÃŒjèsà land, the elements have patently realigned propitiously. The skies have become bluer. The streams have swirled with zest. The ornateness of nature has become more nectarous. The rain has been timely. And the sun, usually lackadaisical in detaching the dazzling drapes of dawn, has never disappointed.
The ÃŒjèsà have witnessed and are still witnessing a resurgence in patriotic zeal. They have found it easier to contend with and surmount the age long hurdles that have cincture cooperation for the advancement of their common interests. AsÃwájú Yinka Fasuyi has spearheaded and he is still spearheading economic rejuvenation of ÃŒjèsà land in the context of the efforts of other equally patriotic sons and daughters of ÃŒjèsà land that he has been able to pull together.
What has impressed observers most has been the openness, accountability, deep sense of responsibility as well as purposefulness and unalloyed patriotism being employed by AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi as he leads the execution of laudable projects in Ijesa land. He has shown and he is still showing deep commitment, made and is still making personal sacrifices using his own resources - time, energy, money, and what have you, as he anchors progress for ÃŒjèsà land.
Ijesa land has suffered neglect for several decades from various governments. But there is a new day in Ijesa land. A new era has arrived to change the narratives of neglect to that of self-actualization. The daughters and sons of Ijesa land who are distinguished in so many endeavors are coming together to build a new day for ourselves and a beautiful tomorrow for the coming generation. AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi is leading the way. Everyone should strive to be part of it.
AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi has made us believe. He has shown that great leadership is possible. He has shown that a leadership that cares and delivers for the critical mass is feasible. He has invested hope in us. He has earned our trust. He has imbued us with confidence in his leadership. He has shown that despite our glorious past, and our eventful present, a greater and beautiful tomorrow awaits us.
Our Kábìyèsà Aláyélúwà , His Imperial Majesty, the Owá Obòkun Àdìmúlà of ÃŒjèsà land, Olórà Aládé, Oba Adésuyì Hastrup, AjÃmókò III has given AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi added blessings. Kábìyèsà has endorsed AsÃwájú Fasuyi’s trajectories. May all the prayers of Kábìyèsà for AsÃwájú Fasuyi be acceptable to all the Alálès of ÃŒjèsà . May it be acceptable to Elédùmarè, the God of our forefathers. Àse.
As AsÃwájú Olayinka Fasuyi celebrates his 70th birthday today, we pray for him that his star shall never dim. His tree shall never starve of leaves. His fountain shall never dry. His light shall not be vulnerable to darkness. His joy shall not be contaminated. May his enemies and detractors alike continue to have regrets over him. May he not be exhausted in his service to himself, his family, immediate or extended, ÃŒjèsà land and by extension, Yorùbá land. May he always remember this day for good by the grace of Elédùwà , the God of our forefathers. Ase.
On behalf of myself and ÀjÃké, I wish you a very happy birthday and very many happy returns of this beautiful day.
