‎Armed bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria, at around 4 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025. The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, overpowered the school's security and abducted 25 female students from their hostels. The vice-principal, identified as Hassan Makuku, was shot dead while trying to protect the students during a gun battle with police tactical units stationed nearby. No students or police officers were injured or killed in the incident.

‎Kebbi State police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar confirmed the abduction and said a joint rescue operation involving the military, police, and local vigilantes is underway to track the kidnappers in the surrounding forests. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

‎Security analysts believe the raid is the work of criminal gangs known as "bandits", who commonly carry out mass abductions in northwestern Nigeria for ransom. This incident is part of a disturbing series of school attacks in the region. Despite government promises to improve security, parents and education advocates warn that the threat of kidnapping is denying thousands of children, especially girls, access to education.

‎Rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities are appealing for calm and asking anyone with information to come forward.
