Gunmen abducted 303 students and 12 teachers from St. Mary's Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State, Nigeria. The attack occurred on Friday morning, and the number of abducted students was updated after a verification exercise revealed 88 more students were captured while trying to escape.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, stated that the school management and National Association of Private Schools didn't receive prior government warnings about closing schools. The total number of victims is now 315, including 12 teachers (4 female, 8 male).
The Bishop appealed for calm, urging collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abductees. This incident follows another abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, highlighting Nigeria's ongoing security challenges.
