The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged a planned protest by what it described as “fake pensioners” and political hoodlums targeted at branches of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) across the state over the disbursement of federal allocations to reinstated APC local government chairmen and councillors.
In a press statement dated February 16, 2026, and signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed it had uncovered fresh plans allegedly sponsored by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to stage protests at UBA branches on Tuesday.
The party recalled that a similar protest was allegedly shelved last week after information about the plan was leaked to the public and security agencies. According to the APC, the state government had previously justified the proposed protests through various press statements before the plan was aborted.
The statement further alleged that a mixture of “real pensioners and hired hoodlums” had begun gathering at designated locations in Osogbo, from where they were expected to march to UBA branches across the state. The APC expressed concern that the protest could turn violent and lead to destruction of bank property.
The opposition party called on the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), to act swiftly to prevent any breakdown of law and order. It warned that there was no justification for any individual or group to resort to self-help or violence over allocation disputes.
The APC also referenced the prolonged strike led by a factional president of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Dr. Nathaniel Kehinde Ogungbamigbe, describing it as part of a pattern of unrest in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued an official response to the allegations.
