Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have arrested two suspected collaborators accused of supplying food and other items to kidnappers operating around the Ilu-Abo community and its environs.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the development on Sunday through its spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police spokesman, the operation was carried out under the leadership of the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
Jimoh disclosed that the suspects, identified as Alhassan Muhammad, 20, and Faruq Muhammad Sanni, 25, both residents of Sabon-Sango in Akure, were arrested on March 15 following credible intelligence provided by a member of the Ilu-Abo community.
According to him, the information suggested that one of the suspects, a commercial motorcyclist, had been assisting kidnappers by purchasing and delivering food and other supplies to their hideouts.
Acting on the tip-off, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad launched a targeted operation in the area, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
Jimoh added that other members of the suspected gang fled the scene upon sighting the security operatives.
He noted that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while those arrested will be interrogated and subsequently charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
