The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Easter celebration.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement.
According to the minister, April 3 will be observed as Good Friday, while April 6 has been designated as Easter Monday.
Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora, urging them to reflect on the values that define the Easter season.
“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ,” he said.
The minister also called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of national harmony.
“Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation. Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country,” he added.
He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing policies that will drive national development, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
