Osun LG Chairmen Donate 300 Motorcycles to Security Agencies, Reaffirm Commitment to Grassroots Development

‎Local Government Chairmen in Osun State, under the umbrella of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), have donated 300 motorcycles to security agencies to boost safety operations across the state.

‎The motorcycles were officially handed over on Tuesday to key security formations, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, hunters, and other local security outfits.

‎Speaking on behalf of the council chairmen, Osun ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, described the initiative as both a strategic security intervention and a reflection of the benefits of local government autonomy.

‎He noted that the motorcycles would significantly enhance the mobility of security personnel, improve response time, and enable access to remote and hard-to-reach communities.

‎“This initiative is aimed at strengthening community policing and ensuring that no part of our state is left vulnerable,” Abiodun said.

‎Abiodun emphasized that increased autonomy has empowered local governments to respond swiftly to security challenges and implement people-oriented programmes tailored to their communities.

According to him, the donation underscores the potential of local governments to serve as strong pillars in national security and development when adequately empowered.

He also commended security operatives for their professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices, urging them to make proper use of the motorcycles to achieve maximum impact.

‎In his remarks, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, lauded the council chairmen for bringing the dividends of democracy closer to the people through strengthened security support.

‎He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for advancing local government autonomy, noting that it has enabled impactful initiatives such as the donation.

‎Gotan described the gesture as timely, stressing that it would enhance patrol operations, improve rapid response, and strengthen efforts to combat crime, particularly in rural areas.

‎“Security is a collective responsibility. This intervention will go a long way in improving safety across our communities,” he said, assuring that the motorcycles would be judiciously deployed.

‎Chairman of the flag-off committee, Hon. Lanre Balogun, commended the cooperation among local government officials that ensured the successful execution of the project.

‎Beneficiaries of the donation also praised the initiative, describing it as thoughtful and impactful.

‎The event was attended by all local government chairmen, councillors, council officials from the 30 local government areas, as well as heads of various security agencies in the state.
