‎Alaye Petitions Owa Obokun Over Alleged Usurpation, Illegal Mining in Ilaye-Ijesa Community

‎A traditional leader in Ilaye Ijesa, Atakumosa East local government, Osun State, High Chief Simeon Olaleye Oginni, has sent a petition to the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, over alleged usurpation of traditional authority and illegal mining activities in the community.

‎The petition, addressed to the monarch, accused Aoro of Ilaye, Adekunle Ayinla Ariyo, of overstepping his traditional role and engaging in activities contrary to the customs and traditions of Ijesaland.

‎According to the petition, Oginni, who is the Alaye of Ilaye Ijesa and the prescribed authority over the Aoro institution, claimed he did not appoint Ayinla as Aoro, alleging that the latter has continued to act without regard for established traditional structures.

‎The petitioner further alleged that Ayinla has been parading himself with powers exclusive to the Alaye, thereby undermining the authority of the traditional leadership in the community.

‎A major concern raised in the petition is the alleged involvement of the Aoro and his associates in facilitating illegal mining operations within Ilaye. The Alaye claimed that miners were brought into the community without his knowledge or approval, leading to the partitioning of communal land.

‎He also alleged that the miners have been making payments to Ayinla and his cohorts, raising concerns over the legality and transparency of the activities.

‎The petition called for the immediate removal of Ayinla as Aoro of Ilaye, citing alleged misconduct and disregard for tradition.

‎In addition, the petitioner alleged that land within the Ilaye community, originally allocated to about 26 tenants by a previous Alaye, has now become a subject of ownership disputes, further complicating tensions in the area.

‎As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Ayinla or his associates regarding the allegations.

‎The petition underscores growing concerns over traditional authority disputes and unregulated mining activities in parts of Osun State.
