APC Chieftain Recalls Slain Members, Accuses Accord Party of Reviving PDP-Era Violence, Warns Against Dragging Owa Into Politics

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Akinyele Akintola, has accused leaders of the Accord Party of attempting to revive what he described as the violent political culture allegedly witnessed during their time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akintola, who is the Director of Contact and Mobilisation for the Ijesa South Federal Constituency Campaign Council of the APC, made the allegation while reacting to claims surrounding the party’s recent “Fitness Match for AMBO” held on May 19, 2026, in Ilesa.

He maintained that the rally was peaceful, lawful and properly coordinated with security agencies, dismissing allegations of intimidation and violence as “false alarms” aimed at gaining public sympathy.

The APC stalwart, however, placed strong emphasis on what he described as the painful experiences suffered by APC members during the 2022 and 2023 election periods when many of the current Accord Party figures were still members of the PDP.

According to him, several APC members were allegedly killed during the period, including:

Hon. Adeyeye Adetunji, a former Council Secretary from Ward 10 in Atakumosa East Local Government, who Akintola alleged was murdered in the presence of his family.

Chief Gbenga Ogbara, APC Chairman in Atakumosa East Central, reportedly killed in his residence at Igangan on April 11, 2022.

Ebenezer Alaro of Ward 9, Ilesa East Local Government, who was allegedly murdered in front of his father’s house in Irojo, Ilesa.

Ibrahim Adebiyi, popularly known as “Omo Alaja,” who Akintola claimed was killed at Eti-Oni.

Akintola said the memories of the killings and attacks on APC members remained painful, but insisted the party had continued to pursue peace and lawful political engagement.

“In the APC, violence is not part of our strategy. We do not believe anybody’s blood should be shed because of politics,” he stated.

He also warned against dragging the palace of the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, into partisan disputes, stressing that the monarch belongs to all indigenes regardless of political affiliation.

The APC chieftain urged anyone with genuine grievances to report to security agencies rather than making repeated complaints to the palace.

The Owa palace and the Accord Party are yet to officially respond.
