The Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi, has called on all the 14 confirmed governorship candidates in Osun State and their respective political parties to immediately shift attention from party primaries to issue-based campaigns centered on the development of the state.
In a statement issued on Friday from Oke Baba Okuta Villa, Ilesa, Fasuyi urged the candidates to begin presenting detailed manifestos, implementation strategies and performance tracking mechanisms to the electorate ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
According to him, the people of Osun State deserve to hear practical and convincing solutions to critical developmental challenges facing the state rather than campaigns built around personalities and political attacks.
Fasuyi listed key sectors and policy areas that candidates must address to earn the confidence of voters. These include security, education, healthcare, youth development, infrastructure, agriculture and food security, women empowerment, foreign investment promotion, mining and mineral development, industrialisation, technology promotion and adaptation, as well as inter-state and intra-state cooperation.
He also challenged the candidates to clearly explain their plans for improving internally generated revenue (IGR), strengthening state-local government relations, ensuring fiscal transparency and accountability, enhancing judicial independence, supporting community-driven development, and guaranteeing the operational independence of institutions such as the State Internal Auditor Office and the State Electoral Commission.
The Ijesaland leader further emphasized the need for all political parties to publicly publish their manifestos and implementation strategies in both English and local languages to ensure accessibility for all residents of the state.
He stressed that beyond campaign promises, candidates should also provide measurable timelines for project delivery and create independent performance tracking mechanisms through which citizens can monitor government performance beyond official government narratives.
Fasuyi called on traditional rulers, professional associations, vocational groups, media organisations, political stakeholders, youth groups, students, farmers, religious bodies, business communities and vulnerable groups across the 332 political wards and 30 local government areas of Osun State to actively engage candidates on developmental issues.
He said stakeholders must consistently demand “credible, convincing and verifiable answers” from governorship aspirants and their party representatives at every public engagement.
The 14 governorship candidates listed by Fasuyi include Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, Najeem Salam of the ADC, Esan Olajide of the AAC, Adeagbo Opawoye of the ADP, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of APGA, Adewale Adebayo of APM, Clement Adesuyi of APP, Masilo Adeleke of the Boot Party, Taofeek Adeleke of the NNPP, Saliu Oyelami of the PRP, Ogunsakin Olalekan of the YPP and Adefemi Adesuyi of the ZLP, among others.
He concluded by admonishing political parties and candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns and encourage responsible voting in the overall interest of the development and progress of Osun State.
