Oluwo Hails Tinubu, Oyetola, Over Approval of Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road Reconstruction

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the full reconstruction of the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan road, describing the move as a significant boost to economic development in the region.

In a statement issued on behalf of over 35 traditional rulers in Iwoland, the monarch also praised the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for his role in facilitating the project’s approval.

Oba Akanbi expressed gratitude to the president and reaffirmed the support of Iwoland’s traditional institutions for his re-election bid.

The royal father recounted the poor state of the road, noting that it had been abandoned for nearly a decade before his ascension to the throne in 2015. He revealed that he personally undertook efforts to rehabilitate the road shortly after his enthronement.

According to him, the intervention involved clearing overgrown sections, mobilising materials including cement, and supervising daily repair work.

“I resumed work on the road at 8am and closed by 6pm every day. This continued for almost four months until the road was reopened,” he said, adding that he also intervened on the Iwo–Ibadan axis in 2018 when it became nearly impassable.

The monarch described the Federal Government’s approval of the reconstruction as a true dividend of democracy, expressing optimism that the project would bring lasting benefits to the people.

He further noted that the improved road infrastructure would enhance commercial activities in Iwoland, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and strengthen economic ties between Osun and Oyo states.
