A civil society organisation, Osun Youths Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG), has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to ensure transparency in their ongoing investigation into top officials of the Osun State Government over an alleged multi-billion naira infrastructure scandal.
The group also urged the anti-graft agencies to expand the probe to include prominent individuals, including businessman Deji Adeleke and Dupe Adeleke-Sanni, over alleged links to the case.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo and signed by its convener, Adeyemi Akande, OYIGG alleged that the Osun State Accountant-General, Rasheed Olalere Alabi, the Chief of Staff to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Kazeem Akinleye, and other officials were involved in the diversion of public funds.
According to the group, the funds in question include allocations received from the Federal Government, which were allegedly spent without legislative appropriation. OYIGG further claimed that some of the funds were traced to accounts linked to a close aide of the governor, while certain loans obtained from a first-generation bank are also under scrutiny.
The organisation noted that some of the officials had reportedly been detained last week before being released on personal recognisance.
OYIGG also accused the Chief of Staff of attempting to compromise investigators through alleged financial inducements aimed at obstructing the probe, though no official confirmation of this claim has been made by authorities.
In addition, the group alleged that officials within the State Ministry of Infrastructure, along with a senior official of the implicated bank, are currently under investigation by the EFCC.
The civil society group called on both anti-corruption agencies to carry out a thorough forensic investigation and make their findings public to ensure accountability.
It further urged members of the media to maintain objectivity in their coverage, alleging attempts by the state government to suppress reports related to the case.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government and the individuals named in the allegations have not issued any official response.
