Members of the Roots Club of Ijesaland are set to celebrate the club’s 40th anniversary with a series of activities aimed at promoting friendship and impactful service in Ijesaland.
The anniversary programme, themed “Forty Years of Friendship and Impactful Service to Ijesa Land,” will run from Friday, April 3 to Sunday, April 5, 2026, featuring community outreach, intellectual engagement, and thanksgiving.
The celebration will kick off on Friday with a special golf kitty at the University of Ilesa Golf Course between 6:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. This will be followed by a medical outreach for elderly residents aged 70 and above, organised in collaboration with the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex.
The outreach, scheduled to hold at the Geriatric Centre along Ijebu-Jesa Road, will provide services including blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol screening, eye checks with distribution of reading glasses, physiotherapy assessment, mental wellness checks, and nutrition counselling. Basic medications will also be distributed, while a special care desk will cater to widows and elderly persons living alone.
Organisers disclosed that volunteer healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, will be on ground, with transportation arrangements made for the very elderly. The event will also feature refreshments for participants and media coverage to encourage future partnerships. Prayers will later be held at the Ilesa Central Mosque by 1:00 p.m.
Activities will continue on Saturday with a club meeting at 11:00 a.m., followed by an invitation-only 40th anniversary variety evening at the Roots Club House. The event will feature a special lecture by Professor Ojagbeni, a Professor of Old Age Psychiatry, titled “Thriving in our 70s and 80s.”
Other highlights of the evening include special recognition awards, a toast to the club at 40, raffle draw, unveiling of a commemorative anniversary brochure, cake cutting, dinner, live music, and dance.
The three-day celebration will conclude on Sunday with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of the Holy Trinity. The service, aimed at appreciating God for four decades of unity, achievements, and protection, will feature a sermon by the Rt. Rev. Bola Ojofeitimi.
The anniversary is expected to draw members, associates, and dignitaries from across Ijesaland and beyond.
