The Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, His Imperial Majesty, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, has officially established and unveiled the Obokungbusi Hall of Fame in a landmark ceremony held on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.
The historic event, which drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, and prominent sons and daughters of Ijesaland, marked a significant step toward preserving the heritage and celebrating the achievements of individuals who have contributed immensely to the development of the land.
Speaking at the ceremony, Owa Haastrup described the Hall of Fame as more than just a physical structure, noting that it represents a deliberate effort to document and preserve the rich history, culture, and values of Ijesaland for future generations.
According to the monarch, the initiative is designed to honour exceptional individuals whose dedication, hard work, and accomplishments have elevated Ijesaland both locally and internationally.
“The Hall of Fame is a platform to tell the stories of men and women whose contributions have defined the very best of our people. Their achievements continue to inspire and challenge us to strive for greater heights,” he said.
The Owa revealed that the inaugural inductees were carefully selected by a seven-member Nomination Committee, which ensured that all honourees met strict criteria, particularly in the areas of enterprise development, cultural promotion, and impactful service to Ijesaland.
Among those honoured were the late music icon, I.K. Dairo, who gained international recognition and was conferred with the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), and Prince Abiodun Lufadeju, composer of the widely celebrated Ijesa anthem.
Also recognised were the late industrialist, Dr. Lawrence Omole, known for his role in establishing International Breweries in Ilesa, and Pa Folorunso Awomolo, founder of Imo Hills Farms, both credited with boosting employment opportunities in the region.
In addition, renowned businesswoman and philanthropist, Dame Eunice Olayinka Obaleye, founder of Yinka Oba Foam, was honoured for her significant contributions to industrial growth and her donation of a fully equipped Fistula and Obstetrics Centre to the Wesley Guild Hospital.
Owa Haastrup emphasized that while Ijesaland is blessed with wealthy and accomplished individuals, there is a need for greater investment within the community to drive sustainable development and create opportunities for the younger generation.
He stressed that the Hall of Fame is not only a recognition platform but also a call to action for Ijesa indigenes to channel their success into meaningful contributions that will benefit the land.
“This initiative is meant to encourage our people to invest in Ijesaland. True success is measured not just by wealth, but by the positive impact on one’s community,” the monarch added.
The royal father also highlighted the historical legacy of Ijesaland, referencing pioneers such as Nigeria’s first lawyer, Alexander Sapara Williams, and renowned physician Oguntola Odunbaku, whose contributions to law and public health continue to inspire generations.
He announced that the Hall of Fame awards would become an annual event, with future inductees expected to demonstrate tangible contributions to the growth and development of Ijesaland.
The ceremony also featured the recognition of ten additional Merit Awardees, bringing the total number of honourees to fifteen.
Owa Haastrup expressed appreciation to the Nomination Committee, led by Chief Akinwande Akinola, for its diligence in selecting deserving candidates from a pool of eminent personalities.
The highlight of the event was the invitation extended to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke, to officially unveil the Obokungbusi Hall of Fame and perform the induction of the awardees.
The monarch concluded by urging Ijesa sons and daughters at home and abroad to see the Hall of Fame as both a symbol of pride and a challenge to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of their homeland.
