Osun APC Alleges Adeleke-Led Accord Party Branding Vehicles in APC Colours to Incite Violence

The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has accused the Accord Party-led administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of allegedly branding vehicles with APC insignia as part of a plot to incite violence and discredit the opposition ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The allegation followed the circulation of a viral video purportedly showing the abduction and harassment of residents by individuals alleged to be supporters of the ruling party while operating in a vehicle bearing APC campaign branding.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, described the incident as a "scripted attempt" aimed at tarnishing the image of the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

According to Omowaiye, the APC had earlier alerted security agencies and the public to what it described as plans by the ruling party to rebrand some of its campaign vehicles with APC colours and logos in order to perpetrate violence and falsely implicate the opposition.

"The recent video lends credence to our earlier warning about the alleged plan by the ruling party to foment trouble ahead of the August 15 governorship election by using vehicles branded in APC colours," he said.

He maintained that the APC would not resort to violence or unlawful means in its quest for electoral victory, insisting that the party's campaign remains focused on issues affecting the people of Osun State.

"Our party will never embark on any unlawful means of winning elections, let alone disturbing the peace of the state. The APC is committed to issue-based campaigning, presenting practical solutions that will improve the lives of the people rather than engaging in violence and intimidation," Omowaiye stated.

The APC spokesperson further alleged that supporters of the ruling party had been involved in acts of intimidation, harassment, and destruction of property, describing such actions as inconsistent with democratic values.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to thoroughly investigate the viral video and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Campaign Council also condemned what it described as the growing trend of political violence and intimidation in the state, urging security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure a peaceful environment before, during, and after the governorship election.

Editor's Note: The Accord Party and the Osun State Government had not publicly responded to the claims at the time of filing this report.
