The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to hand over individuals it described as wanted criminal suspects allegedly being shielded by his administration.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Council alleged that several suspects, including Emir Ajagungbade, Nurudeen Alawonle and Jide Jọda, are currently evading arrest despite being declared wanted by the police and are allegedly being harboured within the Government House in Okefia, Osogbo.
According to the Council, the individuals became fugitives after allegedly jumping bail granted by various courts. It claimed that despite their reported status as wanted persons, they have continued to appear openly with Governor Adeleke at official and political engagements without any effort to facilitate their arrest.
The Council alleged that Emir Ajagungbade is wanted in connection with offences including multiple murders, armed robbery, kidnapping and acts of terrorism. It further claimed that instead of being brought to justice, he has continued to enjoy protection and unrestricted access to the Governor.
The APC Campaign Council also alleged that Nurudeen Alawonle is wanted over the killing of nine APC supporters during the 2022 election violence. It further claimed that Alawonle was arrested in November 2024 in possession of a Barrett pistol and ammunition but has continued to be seen publicly alongside Governor Adeleke.
The statement further alleged that Jide Jọda, Chairman of Irewole Local Government, has been declared wanted in connection with the murder of the late Hon. Remi Abass, the APC leader and Chairman of Irewole Local Government, who was killed within the premises of the local government secretariat in February 2025.
In addition, the Council called on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately arrest and investigate the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, over alleged links to the deaths of two APC chieftains from Irewole Local Government.
The APC Campaign Council urged security agencies to act without fear or favour, insisting that no individual should be above the law regardless of political affiliation.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Ademola Adeleke, Senator Lere Oyewumi and the Osun State Government had not responded to the allegations. The Nigeria Police Force has also not issued an official statement regarding the claims contained in the APC Campaign Council's statement.
