A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its current security challenges, urging citizens to remain calm and continue supporting the Federal Government and security agencies in their efforts to restore peace across the country.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye said the Federal Government was intensifying efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality threatening the nation's security.
According to the former lawmaker, the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to protecting lives and property and is taking decisive steps to address insecurity in all parts of the country.
Oyintiloye noted that President Tinubu's recent Democracy Day declaration of zero tolerance for terrorists and their collaborators demonstrates the government's determination to end violent crimes and restore public confidence in the nation's security architecture.
He said the President's warning to bandits, kidnappers, terrorists, and their sponsors to surrender or face the full weight of the law indicates that criminal elements would no longer be allowed to operate with impunity.
The APC chieftain sympathised with families affected by insecurity, particularly those whose loved ones have been abducted or killed by criminal groups.
He described the situation as painful and unfortunate but urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that security agencies are working tirelessly to rescue victims and bring perpetrators to justice.
According to him, intelligence and security operatives are actively identifying and tracking those responsible for violent crimes across the country, adding that no individual or group would be allowed to undermine Nigeria's peace and stability.
Oyintiloye also expressed confidence in the professionalism and capability of the nation's security personnel, saying they possess the expertise required to tackle insecurity and restore lasting peace.
He, however, advised security chiefs to review and adjust operational strategies where necessary in order to achieve quicker and more effective results.
The APC leader further called on state governors to complement the efforts of the Federal Government by providing adequate support and resources to security agencies operating within their states.
While acknowledging the constitutional role of the President as the nation's Chief Security Officer, he stressed that governors and local government chairmen have a critical role to play because of their closeness to the grassroots.
He urged sub-national governments to strengthen local intelligence gathering and community-based security initiatives aimed at preventing criminal activities before they occur.
Oyintiloye emphasised that sustainable development cannot thrive in an environment plagued by insecurity, noting that economic growth, infrastructure development, investment, and the delivery of social services are largely dependent on peace and stability.
According to him, countries with effective security systems are better positioned to achieve accelerated development, economic prosperity, and improved living standards for their citizens.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information, and continue to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the country.
