ATAKUNMOSA EAST TRADITIONAL RULERS SEEK STRONGER SECURITY, CONSTITUTIONAL ROLES

The Atakunmosa East Chieftaincy Council has called on the Federal and Osun State Governments to strengthen security along forest borders and support community-based security initiatives to curb the infiltration of  criminal elements.

The council made the call at the end of its meeting, comprising traditional rulers in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area of Osun State, under the leadership of the Ogboni of Ipole-Ijesa, Oba Kehinde Oyeleye, held in Ipole-Ijesa.

The council also appealed to the government to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers, saying clearly defined responsibilities would strengthen grassroots governance and enable traditional institutions to contribute more effectively to peace, security, and development in their communities.

It noted that traditional rulers in Atakunmosa East had already taken proactive steps to improve security through a Security Committee established to coordinate community-based security efforts across the local government.

According to the council, the committee has been working with security teams across the five security zones of the local government to prevent the infiltration of suspected criminals and protect lives and property.

Speaking on behalf of the council, the Alamuye of Amuye-Faforiji, Oba Adebayo Faforiji, said government support is needed to strengthen surveillance along forest borders
