The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened online access to the preliminary register of voters ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The move follows complaints from Nigerians and other concerned groups who raised questions about how easily voters could check their details on the register.
INEC announced that the preliminary voters' register is now available on its official online platform, allowing Nigerians to check their registration details without visiting INEC offices.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC's Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC).
According to the commission, the online access is part of efforts to make the voter registration process more open and accessible to Nigerians.
INEC explained that it had earlier displayed the preliminary register of voters physically at Registration Areas across the country between October 9 and 15, 2026.
The exercise was carried out in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026, which provides for the display of the voters' register for public inspection.
With the online platform now available, registered voters have another opportunity to check their information ahead of the 2027 elections.
The commission said the register can be accessed through its official voter register display portal.
Voters can visit the INEC portal to check their registration details.
The development is expected to make it easier for more Nigerians to take part in checking the voters' register as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.
