Booed on a Bus: How Aregbesola's Ilesa Bus Wave Ends in Boos and Controversial Remarks ‎

‎I was standing near the side of the popular Isokun road of Ilesha when a white Toyota Coaster bus rolled slowly down the main road, its side panels plastered with ADC insignia. Former governor Rauf Aregbesola was sitting at the middle of the vehicle, waving both arms in an attempt to draw the attention of by-standers, shoppers and street vendors.

‎Suddenly, a wave of boos erupted from the crowd. People shouted, some raised their phones, and a palpable tension filled the air. A member of Aregbesola’s entourage, visibly shaken, leaned toward a nearby onlooker and whispered, “Imagine, see the people we gave food to…,” before the words trailed off in disbelief.

‎Aregbesola, still perched on the moving bus, snapped back with a curt remark that drew nervous chuckles from his aides: “They are Ambo people.” The comment, interpreted by many as a dismissive jab at the crowd’s perceived political leanings, only amplified the unease.

‎The incident quickly spread on social media, prompting a flurry of reactions. Observers recalled that President *Bola Tinubu* had previously extended significant support to Aregbesola—providing food aid, boosting his public profile, and even financing a high‑profile launch in Osun State. Yet, today Aregbesola is openly critical of Tinubu, aligning with the president’s former rivals.

A senior APC official, speaking anonymously, summed up the mood: “If Aregbesola feels betrayed, he should remember that the stone he throws at the palm tree often returns to him.”

‎The booing of Aregbesola while he was waving from a moving Toyota Coaster underscores the deepening political fault lines in Osun State as the 2026 gubernatorial race approaches. With Aregbesola now questioning the very leader who once propelled him, many are watching to see whether this episode will trigger a broader realignment of alliances before the election.
