The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations linking its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), with hoodlums, describing the claims as false, fabricated, and politically motivated.
In a press statement issued on April 19, 2026, and signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC accused a “faceless” Adeleke campaign group of spreading misinformation in a bid to discredit its candidate ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The party maintained that Oyebamiji remains a peace-loving and focused candidate, insisting that there is no basis for the allegation that he is fraternising with criminal elements in the state.
According to the statement, the claims are part of a broader attempt by opposition figures to undermine the APC’s growing popularity, which it said has been bolstered by increasing defections from other political parties across Osun State.
The APC also alleged that those making the accusations were acting out of fear of electoral defeat, adding that no amount of misinformation would alter the outcome of the forthcoming poll.
In a counter-claim, the party accused supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke of being associated with violent political activities in the past. It referenced incidents of violence during previous elections in the state, alleging that several APC members and supporters were victims.
The statement further alleged that criminal elements are being shielded within government circles, though it did not provide verifiable evidence to support the claim.
Reaffirming its confidence in victory, the APC urged its members and the public to disregard the allegations, describing them as baseless propaganda aimed at causing unnecessary tension in the state’s political space.
The party reiterated its commitment to peaceful campaigning and called on political actors to focus on issue-based engagement as the governorship election approaches.
