Federal Government Extends NYSC Orientation Camp to Six Weeks, Ends Military Drills

The Federal Government has approved major changes to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to make the scheme more useful for young Nigerians.

One of the biggest changes is that the NYSC orientation camp will now last for six weeks instead of the current three weeks.

The government has also removed military drills and parade activities from the orientation camp. In addition, the traditional Passing Out Parade held at the end of the one-year national service will no longer take place. It will be replaced with a graduation ceremony.

According to the government, the new reforms are aimed at helping corps members gain more practical skills. The focus will now be on preparing them for jobs, business, and entrepreneurship.

As part of the changes, a new NYSC uniform will also be introduced to give the scheme a more modern and professional look.

The Federal Government said the reforms are part of its plan to modernise the NYSC and make it better suited to the country's youth development and economic goals.
