‎Ilesa East LG Chairman Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Attack APC Leaders, Urges Security Agencies to Act

 ‎

‎The Executive Chairman of Ilesa East Local Government, Hon. Lanre Balogun, has called on security agencies to investigate what he described as credible intelligence suggesting an alleged plot to attack leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa.

‎Balogun, in a statement made available to KAKAKIOODUA, expressed concern over what he alleged to be plans by political opponents to orchestrate violent attacks capable of disrupting the prevailing peace in the area ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

‎According to the council chairman, the information at his disposal indicates that individuals allegedly disguised in military uniforms may be deployed to carry out attacks and create panic within the community.

‎He specifically alleged that the residences of former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye, himself, and other prominent APC leaders in Ilesa could be targets of the purported attacks.

‎Balogun said the allegations should not be ignored, stressing that any attempt to incite political violence would pose a serious threat to the safety of residents and the peaceful conduct of political activities in the state.

‎The council chairman appealed to security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other relevant law enforcement authorities, to urgently investigate the reported intelligence and take proactive steps to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

‎He urged the security agencies to intensify surveillance across Ilesa and other parts of the state to ensure that no individual or group exploits the political atmosphere to perpetrate violence or intimidate political opponents.

‎Balogun further emphasized that every resident, irrespective of political affiliation, deserves protection under the law, adding that maintaining peace should remain the collective responsibility of political stakeholders, security agencies, and the electorate.

‎The chairman reaffirmed his administration's commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development within Ilesa East Local Government, noting that democratic contests should be conducted without violence, intimidation, or threats to lives and property.
