Osun APC Accuses Accord Party of Spreading False Allegations Ahead of Governorship Election

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused members and leaders of the Accord Party of allegedly spreading false information against the opposition party, its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Friday by the party's Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that elected officials of the Accord Party at both the National Assembly and Osun State House of Assembly levels had embarked on a campaign of misinformation to discredit the opposition.

According to the APC, recent allegations linking the party, its governorship candidate, and Oyetola to acts of violence and other political activities are unfounded and aimed at misleading members of the public.

The party claimed that members of the Accord Party had become increasingly concerned about Governor Ademola Adeleke's chances of securing re-election and were resorting to what it described as "fabricated stories" against political opponents.

The APC specifically dismissed reports alleging attacks on Accord Party members and claims that APC supporters were branding vehicles with Accord Party logos to create unrest in the state. The opposition party described such reports as baseless and urged residents to disregard them.

The statement also referenced the recent collapse of a campaign podium during an Accord Party event in Ijebu-Jesa, noting that the APC had no connection whatsoever with the incident.

The opposition party further argued that its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, had focused on grassroots mobilization and strategic political engagement ahead of the election, while insisting that he remained committed to peaceful campaigning.

"The APC has never and will never embrace violence as a means of achieving political success," the statement said.

The party maintained that Governor Adeleke and the Accord Party were facing growing political challenges ahead of the election and alleged that repeated accusations against opposition figures were part of efforts to gain political advantage.

The APC also called on residents of Osun State to remain vigilant and critically assess political claims and allegations being circulated during the electioneering period.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Accord Party nor the Osun State Government had issued an official response to the APC's latest allegations.

The August 15, 2026 governorship election is expected to be one of the most closely contested political races in Osun State, with major political parties intensifying their campaigns across the state.
